View Full Version : As the Viper Community Turns II

ViperJeff

So with a new day, a new thread to follow the happenings with Viper Community happenings.

Kind of simple today. Without an agenda and playing the neutral ground, not sure where this will lead

Guess we find out

Over the weekend, we managed to get to 5 Active Members and no posts.... Sweet!!!!

Have to figure out a few things on the boards, appears some threads are misplaced, others gone (damn, did I delete them) and some others with links to places I’ve shuttered

The plan....

Over the next few weeks I’ll get the production data re added to the site. This will NOT include the 2017 Viper data. I have it, just won’t post it as of this moment.

Have some other tid bits I’ll add here and there, nothing important, just fun things I’ve learned along the way

ViperJeff
09-19-2018, 07:42 AM
Ok, the Viper Truck production has been loaded up, start working on Vipers here soon.

ViperJeff

Looks like I was correct.

ViperJeff
09-22-2018, 10:06 AM
Not much to add today. Will be working on a few breakdowns that I would like to add

ViperJeff
09-22-2018, 07:40 PM
An additional comment for the day, the last seven days has answered a critical question for me.

I know there is no rush to complete any of this. I realize a lot of it I could just copy in from documents already created. I could probably add 10,000 documents in 30 days.

Instead, I will probably work on registered vehicles and redoing the banner

Also working on a minimum active to bring back the plaques and certificates. Then I laugh knowing if I said 10, I wouldn’t get there

Hey, racing is on, be back later

ViperJeff
09-25-2018, 09:53 AM
Progressing as expected.

The FB messages continue, however I don’t respond. Not sure how many more times I need to notify requests need to come through here.

I need a clear searchable source for data, FB is not that source. It’s aweful in every sense of the word and process.

Some 2004 registered Viper Trucks added

ViperJeff

I’m reminded that the years have been hard on forums and clubs. Not a member of a club myself, I understand that part. The low value of a forum is a bit more concerning. I have noticed more and more the repetitive questions on social medial with responses all over the spectrum. Even with the Registry, I would get tagged on posts that I could not comment on, then with answers that were just laughable.

In time, as social media will take that next step into some future method of making data even harder to find. Sure it’s easier, sure it’s faster. It will also be less intelligent and less useful for finding data.

Funny thing, I’m not asking for anything other than an understanding of sites that are not social media and their future value

I already know after years of this, my volume will always be at or near zero. I’m ok with that.

For the few that read this, I will always try to be as accurate as I can be. There are other people, other sites and other ways of learning this data. I just know, not all of them are accurate

Cheers, happy Wednesday

I e been told, when you talk to yourself, the answers you get are more intelligent

ViperJeff

Another bright day ahead, going to do some more work on equipment lists. Really surprises me how different a lot of these Vipers rolled off the line

ViperJeff
09-27-2018, 09:34 AM
Was asked if I know the build sequence for all years.

No

2004 Viper Trucks are still an issue

Most Viper years also no. Pretty sure I have the Gen V and most of the Gen IV.

The other years may never be completed (by me) as I lost my contact to learning the MDH. I know.... that sucks

Shit......

I just noticed someone else posted a similar post elsewhere

Disclaimer: I am not echoing or supporting the other post. It is independent and stands on its own merit.

With that said, some know that after a year or more of sitting idle I want to finish my work here, which will include over 43,000 vehicles. It will be an undertaking, an undertaking that will take a lot of time and yes thousands of posts. It would and can be more fun with participation, however, I know better..... as I said earlier.

Back to the compiling

2008 Production totals added.

Probably do Gen IV and V first (with the exception of 2017 for obvious reasons). From there, I'll just start at 1992 and work my way up

ViperJeff
10-03-2018, 07:45 PM

ViperJeff
10-06-2018, 10:37 PM
It should be noted to those that visit. All the data pages that were linked to the vipertruckregistry.com site are all broken as that site has went away. If there is data you wanted to see from those broken links, let me know

ViperJeff
10-07-2018, 03:41 PM

ViperJeff
10-08-2018, 07:00 AM
Got several Vipers and Viper Trucks added over the weekend to the viewable area. In the next few days all the hidden stuff will be viewable

The formatting in the posts are pretty ugley as initially it was just for research purposes for me, didn’t care what it looked like. Pretty sure on most of it I will not go back and clean it up. Please accept my apology

ViperJeff
10-08-2018, 07:02 AM
1992 Viper is almost all posted

ViperJeff
10-09-2018, 10:38 AM

ViperJeff
10-11-2018, 06:42 AM
Not much accomplished yesterday.... I took the day for other activities lol

ViperJeff
10-12-2018, 07:24 AM
Yesterday was a good day. Finished off verifing all of the 1992 Vipers are available (by VIN) on this site. 1993 will take considerably longer due to the amount, however, that is the next goal.

ViperJeff
10-12-2018, 01:55 PM

Not much going on tonight, however, I do think I’m ahead of schedule

ViperJeff
10-16-2018, 10:25 AM
I think for a little while I’m going to bounce between the years a models. Probably concentrate on the registered ones. Also have 400 or so that are still in the research area I need to move to the viewable sections

ViperJeff
10-16-2018, 08:40 PM
A lot added today

ViperJeff
10-16-2018, 11:11 PM
I need to be careful. Last time I helped build someone else list, I took a 3 lb sludge to the ole nutsack.

I need to focus

Some 2004 registered Viper Trucks added

Do we know how many 2004 Reds are still alive today? I can't find that section :sunot: :flowers2:

THANKS FOR :help:

ViperJeff

ViperJeff
10-20-2018, 08:51 PM
Big dent put in the list to post today....

Added the "Totaled" data that I have, I know there is a lot more. That project will literly take forever

Rock on, a whole lot more to do

ViperJeff
10-21-2018, 11:56 AM
Well, it looks like after 11 years, I no longer have access to some of the data I relied on (without being specific). This means the amount of data I may be able to pass on will be even more limited

ViperJeff
10-21-2018, 02:52 PM
While working on the Options it has become troubling that there are items that are listed under Standard Equipment for some Vipers and Optional Equipment on others. I realize this is entire possible, just didn't realize it would be at the level it is.

Wanted to get a bit more done in this area, however, I might need to put it off for a several weeks and build a better process. It is important that as I build these break downs that I get an accurate count of what category these items are listed under

ViperJeff
10-23-2018, 09:31 AM
Didn’t do much yesterday and won’t do much all week, Sheetrock and tiling will have my focus

ViperJeff
10-24-2018, 06:59 AM
Yea, nothing done yesterday. Did I mention just how much I don’t like kidding after the Sheetrock goes up. Sometimes wish I wasn’t a perfectionist!!

ViperJeff
10-24-2018, 04:21 PM
Long day. I might try and answer a few questions today

ViperJeff
10-24-2018, 09:11 PM

ViperJeff
10-27-2018, 07:57 PM
Not much done today, off hunting

On a side note, Robert, I’m not a member of that group and do not have comment rights. I would need to know the vin of that yellow fever and then I still might not know

ViperJeff
10-29-2018, 11:13 AM
Will be back at it later today, if you have an area you would like me to focus on, let me know

ViperJeff
10-29-2018, 02:42 PM
Is a “no response” a “yes” or “no”?

ViperJeff
10-29-2018, 06:02 PM
I know I already have it on the IVR, however, 2006 and 2013 production data updated here

ViperJeff
10-30-2018, 07:11 AM
Over the next week or so I’ll be working on special edition lists and fun to know lists. Like the first 15 Viper Trucks built, the last 15 Viper Trucks built, some special edition Viper groups. It should be fun

Well, I did get an answer on a question I asked on one of the forums. Right now it has been decided I should not post. I’m ok with that and will continue on releasing what I know here. Lots of work to do in then meantime. I’m sure some will see the links on FB and others will see them on competing sites. The data is not part of the contest of wills, it’s just data

ViperJeff
11-06-2018, 10:42 AM
Didn't do much yesterday. Not sure what to work on next. If worse comes to worse, back to the vehicle entries, I have plenty to keep me busy

ViperJeff

There may be more changes coming to www.viperregistry.com. I see the lists are a hit and the downloads are in full swing. That tells me there is an interest in the data.

Need to do just a little more testing and then I’ll know what the next step will be

For the simple production data, don’t forget to visit the Viper Club of America’s site. I maintain the data there also, so our data will always match. http://www.theviperregistry.com/build_details.php

ViperJeff
11-09-2018, 10:56 AM
I think the second test is done. I expected a falloff as free was no longer free. It did provide the data I was looking for.

When everything was free, there was a pretty steady march to collect the data provided. With a simple and easy $5 charge, the majority magically stopped loging in.

He model currently in place is what will stay. Over time the lists will be complete and this will be a data rich environment. I somethines wonder how others will use the data, however, I guess it really doesn’t matter.

Keeping it a secret helps no one, so it’s on.

Lots of work to do, not sure I’ll get it all done

Like to thank everyone for their patience while I’m busy with the fun and excitement of Christmas.

The first thing that will be completed heading into 2019 is what I have for the 2017 production. I’ve waited over a year for other groups to post theirs and a few have done so. My list will be based on provable and verified VINs. Some have more, some have less. I’ll do as many breakouts that I’ve done for the other years

Merry Christmas and Make 2019 a year to remember!

Just a quick update, I haven’t worked on the Viper side of the database for months. No updates are planned and no additions to any breakouts are planned

Yes, I’ve lost interest......

FB pages have been closed for a month.

Hope the data here helps with your questions, I won’t be taking this down

Enjoy your year, maybe 2020 will show some promise as I’m tired of posting notes to myself.

WOW, been a long time since I posted in here.

As the Viper Community Turns and has it ever. The end of 2020 I Stopped being the Web guy and primary Moderator and Administrator over on the VCA. Stopped all involvement on the International Viper Registry (IVR). Started writing books with all the data I collected, bought a 53 Chevy pick up as a project to have fun with and so much more.

Viper and Viper Truck communities are well invested in the Social Media type platforms and so was I. Now I leaving those toxic environments. I will have zero impact on there bottom line, my only way to show my displeasure is to not use it, so here I am, back where I started.

I also understand that very few will follow me here as forums are dinosaurs and are not as fluid at social media. However, data.... is better documented in this environment than in Social Media

In the coming days, I will be showing what I'm doing with the books, I'll be updating the page where they can be obtained, all kinds of stuff going on

Cheers

ViperJeff
11-04-2021, 08:55 AM
I guess I'm liking this reversal back to the forum where this started so many years ago. I went back and reviewed posts I made on fb and noticed it had reach but not real conversation. I think I was fooled into believing that reach meant interest in what I was doing. However after several years of seeing the reach with very little conversation, I might as well just post here. Some may wonder why. the biggest reason is being able to do a search

T minus 57 days to FB closure

Something interesting must have happened over the past two days while I was busy, lots of folks requesting build data and plaques.

Yes I still provide build with, just email me your vin ([email protected])

ViperJeff
11-09-2021, 02:46 PM
Went back an visited the ole VOA to check in with the progress. I see that there won't be any until mid month and so the posts are just normal frustration stuff and of no real value in the moving forward.

I was asked yesterday if I thought they would survive, and I said yes. Not that I'm a VOA fan or promoter, I just think there are enough people in the club that will push for the survival.

I also thought is was unproductive at this time to even try to analyze any of this.

I'm not even sure I'm interested any more. I would drop by from time to time to see if there were Registry like type questions, it's now all BAT posts and "The Thread".

To me it may be clear that the local clubs should be the focus and if they want to pool there money at national for national event do that, otherwise, they should just collect dues for their local club. There will be no national mis steps at that point, the local clubs get to decide what national gets, not national determining what the local club gets... get it :)

ViperJeff
11-24-2021, 10:39 PM
Well Well Well

So reading the current drama is see the end of the viper nation on a national level,

Why would anyone be part of it when locally so much more can be done at a far less cost

I remember with the VCA and reading old post just how bad it was WITH PEOPLE PROTECTING POSITIONS AND INCOME. The same thing is happening now.

Also the lack of communication is also similar

The only plus is no banning

oh, but wait there is more

1/2of the people responsible for the mess, was re elected ugh

ViperJeff
11-28-2021, 06:55 PM
I'm to the point of laughter now......

ViperJeff
11-30-2021, 01:05 PM
I just realized with leaving social media coming up on 12/31/2021, some of the Community drama will not be seen by me "YEA"!

I'll still have the two forums to review and see whats up. One is rebuilding and one is burning. One is actively seeking renewals while hiding the drama, the other is not actively doing anything (it appears). One has a variety a posts, the other centered on reviewing every mistake the other one made 8 years ago.

This is why you don't delete the past, ignore the past or just think your incapable of making the same mistakes that happened in the past. The past is evil and bite you when your not paying attention.

No, I don't want to be a member

ViperJeff
12-07-2021, 09:41 AM
the shit storm over on the VOA continues, seems people are losing patience with the dishonesty of the 175k loan and NOW, there is a raffle for a Viper. One would think after all the issues with raffles in the past on the VCA, this would not have happened. the IRS seems to not like raffles and non-for-profit organizations. My understanding is from history that member fees are not taxable, income from a raffle is and that muddies the waters a bit. Sure, glad I'm not their accountant/treasurer. It's sounds like a nightmare. I'm also not a Tax specialist/attorney so I may just be talking out my ass. This is all opinion of course, but opinion based on history and the troubles it caused the VCA. Happy to see the VCA at least being smart about rebuilding where the VOA is in a balls on fire, 500 mph crash into the nearest wall. I don't think at this point though, that I would join any club/association. The people are great, the organizations not so much. It seems anymore to be less about club/association members and more about power

Also, I have found that watching the gee we fucked up thread over on the VOA more boring each day

Tell me this isn't the democrat build back better plan of viper clubs. Take money from the taxpayers, tell them it's ok, have people that had no involvement in the loss of 100's of thousands of dollars pay off that debt

whats wrong with that

Almost 30 days in and no more social media. Bounced to 30 active members, down to 7, should be back to 3 or 4 by the end of the month. Well the data will be here even for the guests

Things are far better not watching the insanity of social media, worse yet participating in it

As you can tell I don’t post much any more, not that I’ve lost interest in Vipers or Viper Trucks. I’ve lost interest in pushing my particular passion. I’ve watched a multitude of sites and we are with out question in a major lull in interest. So with that, I will just quietly work behind the scenes

Hi Jeff,

I'm German and when I acquired my Viper I was so enthusiastic to be a proud member of this awesome community ... I was shocked and sad when I learned how things with VOA and VCA evolved stateside and what became of the once united fandom. As 'outsider' and someone who came new to the game (2021) I decided to keep my distance ... I still posted at all 3 forums (ViperAlley, VCA and VOA) that my Viper is stationed in good 'ol Germany. I don't mean to nag around, but in my opinion it was and is sad that such a small community got divided by stupid stuff.
However I wasn't able to dive to deep into what happened in the states and who's who ... a accident on the Autobahn (Belgium workes switched lanes with their commercial vehicle without watching out) made me spend my time differently.

I spend more than a year repairing my Viper and hat to learn so much more sad truths ... how many Vipers were scrapped, how shitty of a company FCA/Stellantis is for NOT providing even basic spare parts whilst boasting around with their 'new' halo cars ...... I'm still a little bit upset, confused and sad about that. In my opinion the Viper is an almost perfect supercar (because it is that 'simple') - everybody can work on it and the basis is more than good ... the plattform is in fact so good that it still would be competitive around the world - but that's not happening because of lacking support :-(
Anyways. I just wanted to say: I fully understand your ups and downs and I'm both: happy that I got my Viper but also sad that there isn't enough recognition of it. The fanbase is split, the manufacturer scorns and ignores it (I wonder if Demon owners have to buy parts from the junkyards too once their cars got older than 5 years?) and most people just don't know how capable, special and rare Vipers are. I regulary work on cars of all makes and I can tell you: the Viper is one of the most straight-forward constructions I've ever seen ... not as overengineered as German cars, jammed together like the JDMs or unreliable as the Italians. One of the things I hate most is the VW-company with all their sub-brands ... especially Audi and Lamborghini charge much money for cars that had every mechanic running and seeking cover. And of course Porsche ... yeah, there is serious engineering at play and I respect their achievments, but hell - dealing with the community requires some special ... attitude ... and money ... and image.
On the other hand: Porsche got what we (probably) will never have - a history that IS alive and even more important: they make sure to keep it alive. Just imagine Mopar would offer 'out of stock' parts like fender supports, body panels or headlights via their webshop - the spirit of the Cobra/Viper would be so much more alive. Offer kit cars, frames, engines and (most important) some suspension parts (that took me some time!) and the Viper wouldn't vanish that soon. But of course - they can't do that because everybody would see the contrast to the modern stuff - all image, (almost) no credibility side-by-side. The same goes for the new Ms, AMGs and almost every modern 'supercar' - purity was lost long ago ... downsizing (I worked as dyno operator in engine devolpment btw), new laws and pampered customers have switched the game - what once was important (weight, just necessary electronics, RWD, manual, NA power with much torque and quick response) was replaced by luxury, assistants, digital cockpits and stuff like that.

Anyways. I wish you a great week,
Kevin

I understand completely. 30 years from now we will all be a big happy family again
